How to Unlock Your Vehicle

If your Volvo keyfob works only intermittently, it could be that the battery is be failing and you'll have to replace it quickly.
You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few simple steps. Choose a clean, dry surface to work on. Then, you can lay out all the tools needed. Find the battery hatch, and make sure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or another similar tool to make the hatch off. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting it up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Wear rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
Place the new battery in the socket after the older one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is securely seated in all the clips. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring until it is loose and falls off. Then, lift the cover and reveal the mechanical key blade inside. First, locate the small slot that the backup / emergency metal ignition key used to reside. Insert the blade of a screwdriver tool into this slot and gently pull the back of the fob open. Once the fob has been opened you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Put a brand new battery in its place and put the fob back together.
Note: Certain older Volvo models have another type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of millimeters less than a CR2032 which means you'll need to be very careful when replacing your battery.
